Arsenal to revive their interest in Alexander Isak

Arsenal plans to sign Isak in the summer

Given that Mikel Arteta’s team is vulnerable to Newcastle’s asking price of more than €100 million, Arsenal is “likely” to rekindle their interest in Alexander Isak this summer.

Since moving from Real Sociedad to Newcastle for €70 million in 2022, Isak has been one of the Premier League’s most prolific strikers; only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have scored more goals than the Swede during that time.

Arteta hinted that Isak’s goal threat was the difference between the two teams. This week, the 25-year-old scored against Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, bringing his season total to 15 goals across all competitions.

Newcastle will probably want a British transfer record sum that surpasses the €116 million Arsenal paid for Declan Rice in 2023, even though Isak’s contract at St. James’ Park doesn’t expire until 2028.

Although they would probably need to “be creative” to complete another nine-figure purchase, the Daily Mail claims that Arsenal is “not opposed” to returning to those costly levels.

Isak has continuously dismissed speculations

Isak has, however, persisted in denying rumours that he is interested in a summer transfer, and Newcastle’s quest for Champions League football along with possible Carabao Cup glory could make matters more difficult.

At the Emirates, it is acknowledged that Arsenal lacks depth and talent in attack, especially up front, even if only two Premier League sides have outscored them this season.

Benjamin Sesko turned down a move to Arsenal last summer in part because Arteta was loyal to Kai Havertz as his starting number nine, although the German has since raised doubts about his striker skills.

Since Arsenal is unlikely to make a move for a forward in the January transfer window, a renewed attempt for Sesko may also be in the works in the summer if Isak proves to be unachievable.

Arsenal only in the Market to replace the injured Saka

A stopgap replacement for Bukayo Saka, who will be out for the Gunners for an extended period of time due to injury, is the only possible acquisition that could entice Arsenal to take action this month.

But no deals seem to be in the works for Arsenal, who will instead try to keep their “powder dry” in the hopes of acquiring a big-name striker in the summer, like Isak.
