Mykhailo Mudryk could be banned for up to four years after a prohibited drug was found in his urine during a regular test. The 23-year-old Chelsea winger hasn’t featured for the Blues since he scored against Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League.
He was last listed in the matchday squad against Aston Villa at the beginning of this month. A failed test was originally reported in his home country of Ukraine, and then the Premier League’s biggest clubs verified it.
According to reports, a second sample has subsequently been asked for; the outcome is yet unknown. Mudryk makes it clear that he did not intentionally take any prohibited substances.
The Chelsea player may miss a considerable amount of time on the pitch if his B sample also yields a positive result, which may result in a four-year doping ban for Mudryk. According to a statement issued by Chelsea, “Chelsea Football Club can confirm the Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk regarding an adverse finding in a routine urine test.
“Every player, including Mykhailo, is subject to routine testing, and the Club and Mykhailo fully support the FA’s testing policy. Mykhailo has unequivocally said that he has never taken any illegal narcotics with knowledge.
To determine what led to the unfavourable conclusion, Mykhailo and the Club will now collaborate with the appropriate authorities.
In addition, Mudryk has offered commentary on the matter on social media, writing: “I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance.
“I’m working closely with my team to look into how this could have happened because I’ve never used any prohibited substances or broken any laws, so this has completely shocked me.
