According to reports, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea defender Renato Veiga have come to a “total verbal agreement.”
The Portugal international paid €14 million to transfer from FC Basel to Stamford Bridge in July, but he has been strongly linked to leaving in January due to interest from several European clubs.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Juventus, Napoli, Stuttgart, and Bournemouth are all keen to recruit Veiga this month; according to reports, Chelsea turned down his initial offer last week. According to Sky Germany, Dortmund has now entered the competition for Veiga and has verbally agreed to terms with the 21-year-old.
The Bundesliga powerhouses are currently working to conclude an arrangement with Chelsea before the January transfer window closes in order to sign Veiga on a loan with a buyout option.
Will Chelsea Allow Veiga to leave
In January 2024, Dortmund acquired Ian Maatsen from Chelsea on loan; during the previous ten years, Christian Pulisic and Michy Batshuayi have also switched between the two teams.
Veiga still has six and a half years left on his Chelsea deal, but he is apparently open to moving Borussia Dortmund this month because he is lower in the Stamford Bridge hierarchy than Marc Cucurella. This season, the Portugal defender has made 17 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, however he has only started one Premier League game.
Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Cesare Casadei, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Veiga are among the other players who could depart Chelsea in January.
As Enzo Maresca attempts to strengthen his first team after a slump in performance over the holiday season, the Blues have been linked to recruiting players like Marc Guehi and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
