Manchester United and Arsenal fighting for Atalanta’s Retegui

The 25-year-old striker has made 33 appearances for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side this season, scoring 23 goals. He cost €20.9 million to join Atalanta from Genoa in August 2024.
According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Retegui has drawn a lot of transfer interest in recent months and is presently being scouted by Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United in anticipation of a potential high-profile summer transfer.
The Italy international is anticipated to be embroiled in a transfer tug-of-war between numerous elite European clubs and is expected to fetch a sum of between €50 and €60 million as Atalanta looks to maximise the possible transfer money they could collect later this year.
Retegui has been linked to Arsenal for a number of months, and Mikel Arteta is said to see the Atalanta player as the “perfect answer” to his team’s centre forward problems. But now that Ruben Amorim is looking to add a new striker in 2025, Manchester United has entered the competition to recruit him.
Will Mateo Retegui join Man Utd?
Only two Premier League goals have been scored by Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined this season. In an attempt to add a centre forward to Old Trafford, Manchester United has recently been linked to players like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko.
The Red Devils have added Retegui to their list of possible transfer targets, and the Italian may be able to sign a contract with the Premier League powerhouse this summer.
Due to his impressive display since the start of the 2024–25 season, the Italy international has three and a half years left on his current contract at Atalanta, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is at a career high of €38.5 million.
