Regarding Benjamin Sesko’s possible January transfer from RB Leipzig to Arsenal, the player’s agent has spoken out. On December 20, FootballTransfers disclosed that Mikel Arteta would prefer to sign Sesko as a center-forward over Viktor Gyokeres.
The Slovenian striker has been linked to a January transfer to the Gunners, and on Thursday, there were even hints that he would sign a loan deal at the Emirates Stadium. Elvis Basanovic, Sesko’s agent, has disclosed in an interview with Fabrizio Romano for GMS.
“I have never discussed a loan move for Sesko with Arsenal; I’m not sure where this story originated,” he says. “This was never discussed with Arsenal or any other club, and Sesko is not a player on loan. I can only respond that Sesko is an RB Leipzig player and is totally focused on that if you ask me if he will go in January.
Arsenal and Chelsea to battle for Sesko?
Romano also claims that Chelsea are interested in the 21-year-old striker, who has scored 13 goals this season. The agent, though, is not prepared to comment on such speculation.
“RB Leipzig are the right people to ask these kinds of questions,” he claims.
Previously, Romano stated that it would take a “crazy” bid from Arsenal to allow them to buy Sesko during the January transfer window, and writing for GMS, he adds that the €60-65 million price tag being put on the player is unlikely to tempt RB Leipzig into a sale at this juncture.
There is no release clause in place for the player until the summer, which complicates the prospects of either Arsenal or Chelsea landing him immediately.
On his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Arsenal will keep monitoring the player, Chelsea are also constantly watching Sesko, but they’re doing the same with Liam Delap and more players. Delap remains a player high on their list.
They’re also monitoring Sesko but Arsenal are really, really closely following him. You’ll remember that they tried to sign him in the summer transfer window but it was not possible and the player extended.”
Sesko remains, therefore, one to watch.
