Thomas Muller announces his departure from Bayern at the end of the season

Müller’s contract expires at the end of the current season, and it has been determined that he will not renew it. His association with the club, which commenced twenty-five years ago in the academy, will conclude.

“It’s clear that today is anything but a normal day for me. My 25 long years as a Bayern player will come to an end in the summer,” the 35-year-old announced on Saturday morning. “It was an incredible journey shaped by unique experiences, great encounters and unforgettable triumphs.

“This really special connection to the club and our fantastic fans will remain forever. What I want as a farewell is clearly titles that we can celebrate together and positive moments that will remain in our memories for a long time. We’ll do all we can in the coming weeks to bring the Bundesliga title back to Munich and reach our desired Finale Dahoam.”

Trophies and achievements 

Müller is one of the most cherished and the most decorated players in Bayern’s history. He has made 743 appearances for the club, the highest of any player, and holds the record for the most Bundesliga titles, with 12, in the league’s history.

Including six DFB Cups, two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, eight domestic Supercups, and two FIFA Club World Cups, he has amassed a total of 32 trophies for the Bavarians.

He debuted for the first squad in August 2008, substituting for Miroslav Klose against Hamburg, and has since accumulated around 500 Bundesliga appearances, ranking him in the league’s all-time top 15, while long-time teammate Manuel Neuer occupies the eighth position.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup elevates Müller’s prize collection to 33 in his professional career, ranking second only to the retiring Toni Kroos (34) among German players. His 247 goals rank him third in Bayern’s all-time list, surpassed only by Robert Lewandowski and Gerd Müller. He has accumulated 150 goals in the Bundesliga, along with 177 assists.

Bayern has announced that Müller will receive a testimonial match following his exit. He and the club have six Bundesliga fixtures left this season. His last home match in the league will occur against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 10 May.

His final match at the Allianz Arena as a Bayern player may occur at the Champions League final on 31 May, as the current Bundesliga leaders have advanced to the quarter-finals against Inter Milan.

Müller’s final appearances for his childhood club will occur at the Club World Cup this summer. Bayern will participate in three group matches and maybe four knockout matches in the USA from June 15 to July 13.
